The Ministry of Health and Khesar Gyalpo University of Medical Science of Bhutan (KGUMSB) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) yesterday to improve collaboration between the two to strengthen the continuing medical education programmes.

The MOU mandates an efficient and effective delivery of capacity-building and educating health workers. Lyonpo during her address said that KGUMSB will now shoulder the responsibilities to facilitate the needs of the health workers.

“The ministry will only provide directives and resource-mobilisation and KGUMSB will forecast who needs to be trained, how it will be done and what would be their career path going forward,” Lyonpo said.

Lyonpo added that it is important to facilitate building institutions through transformation. “At the end of the process, we’ll see clearer mandates, clearer accountability, and clearer responsibility and that is the objective of the transformation.”

Prior to the MOU, capacity-building and training of health workers were conducted by both the ministry and KGUMSB. Now the continued medical education programme will be completely looked after by KGUMSB.

The signing of the MOU is part of the transformation process where the ministry is reviewing the mandates of the organisations and assigns new mandates to each of the relevant organisations.
