Update: Families affected by the recent fire in Mongar are yet to receive structural designs to rebuild their homes.

Mongar Dzongdag Ugen Sonam said that the human settlement ministry has to provide the affected families with architectural drawings of their new buildings.

Dzongkhag Engineer Sonam Tashi said that the ministry has completed the structural drawings and will hand them over to the families. However, building owners are yet to clear the debris.

Sonam Rinchen, who lost his building during the fire incident, said that he received a sum of Nu 3 million as insurance which is not enough to construct a building.

Namgay Dorji, another building owner who lost everything when the fire engulfed the town, said that he is grateful that the banks have granted a three-month grace period. “We are compelled to request the banks to extend the grace period until construction is completed.”
