A senior monk of the zhung dratsang succumbed to Covid-19 in Bodhgaya, India, on April 24.

 

It was learnt three monks taking care of the Buddhist temple of zhung dratsang in Bodhgaya tested positive to Covid-19 recently and discussions were going on to bring the three monks to Bhutan via road.

 

Although details were not clear, a source said the senior monk died on April 24 but the other two are on their way home.

 

Officials from zhung dratsang confirmed the death of the monk but said they do not know if he died of Covid-19, as they did not get the medical report.

 

Meanwhile, it was learnt 14 officials of the Royal Bhutanese Embassy in New Delhi also tested positive to Covid-19 but sources said most of them are asymptomatic.

 

A source said few have mild symptoms.

 

In Kolkata, a patient tested positive, who has been isolated.

Sources from the foreign ministry said although no figures are available to ascertain how many Bhutanese live in India, the Royal Bhutanese Embassy officials in Delhi and consulate offices are monitoring Bhutanese in India and providing them counselling.
