A total of 968 Light Emitting Diode (LED) flood lights and LED illumination fixtures and fittings lighted up the Semtokha Dzong, Changangkha lhakhang and two Bazams at Changjiji and near Centenary Farmers’ Market, yesterday. Fitted by Bhutan Power Corporation (BPC), the illumination of these historic landmarks was inaugurated by Home and Cultural Affairs Minister Dawa Gyeltshen.

To provide an aesthetic view and a safe place to commute for evening visitors, the facelift comes at a total cost of Nu 13.6 million, out of which 7.8 million was donated by Dr Kwang Soo Kim, President of Woosen Energy and Construction, who had taken up the illumination lightings at Tashichhoedzong in 2011. These LED lightings and fittings range from 45 to 100 watts and have a power saving capacity of 67 percent.

The illumination of these historic landmarks is in line with the 60th birth anniversary of His Majesty the Fourth Druk Gyalpo Jigme Singye Wangchuck. BPC has also taken up additional work of pumping water supply for Lungchutse and Dongkola lhakhang to mark the historic occasion.
