Management: In a better turnout than the first application process, six Bhutanese have applied for the Nu 160,000 monthly paying job of Drukair CEO.

The identities of the six applicants could be not be revealed by Drukair.

Druk Holding and Investments (DHI) director (Dr) Damber S Kharka said that the candidates will be presented to DHI by the airline on July 27 and shortlisted by July 29 to be followed with interviews.

He added that by August the national airline should have a CEO.

However, if a CEO still cannot be identified from this second pool then a “head hunt” would occur. This means that DHI will approach individuals in the government and private sector directly and attempt to recruit them as CEO. For this phase, no time line can be established as negotiations with the candidates would have to be held, explained the director.

A second application process had to be held after no suitable candidates were identified in the first round. Two foreigners and two Bhutanese candidates had applied for the post.

The former CEO, Tandin Jamso, despite having two more years left on his contract resigned for personal reasons. He left office at the end of July.

Drukair will be looking for a person who can retain market share and employees with private airline Tashi Air now providing competition and causing losses, ensuring financial viability and leading a “major transformation program” of the national airline.
