The ninth edition of mountain echoes literary festival will be held from August 22 to 25 in Thimphu.

The festival will bring speakers, actors and writers, among others, to share ideas and discuss art, music, literature, and exchange cultures.

As 2018 marks the 50th anniversary of the establishment of formal diplomatic relations between Bhutan and India, the festival will also include segments focused on relations.

Her Majesty Queen Mother Dorji Wangmo Wangchuck who authored Treasure of the Thunder Dragon: A portrait of Bhutan will attend the festival.

Ambassador Major General Vetsop Namgyel and Ambassador Jaideep Sarkar will also attend the festival.

The festival will also feature Kunzang Choden, first woman novelists from Bhutan. Her works include The circle of Karma, Chilli and Cheese: Food and Society in Bhutan, Folktales of Bhutan, and Dawa: The story of a Stray Dog.

Pema Euden, the author of Coming Home and Lomba will also join the lit fest.

Tashi Gyeltshen’s The Red Phallus that won the production grant award at Locarno film festival in Switzerland will be released later this year.

The festival will also feature writer Karma Singye Dorji, comedian Gem Tshering, author Bjorn Melgaard, author Daniel C Taylor, professor Andrew Quintman, Singer Usha Uthup, actor Naseeruddin Shah, and rappers Maynia Dhubee O G and Kezang Dorji, among others.

The four-day festival is an initiative of the India Bhutan Foundation in association with Siyahi.
