Highway: It took two excavators almost seven hours to clear the mudslide that had blocked the Wangdue-Tsirang highway yesterday.
At least 500 vehicles, including all passenger buses were stranded since morning at the block, near the Punatsangchu-I dam site.
Larsen and Turbo Construction’s engineer, Pravin Kumar said heavy rainfall on August 24 night had washed down debris from the water source channelled to the PHPA housing colony and clogged the drainage.
The overflow had seeped into a hillock below the colony causing a portion of it to slide and block about 60 metres of the road. Five trucks were deployed to remove the debris and the highway was cleared for traffic around 2.30pm.
