Thromde: Phuentsholing Thromde will soon have multi-storey car parking, which will ease the serious shortage of parking space that the thromde is facing currently.

A budget of Nu 50 million has been secured from Government of India for the construction of parking facility.

Tharchen Lhendup, thromde’s executive secretary, said a three-storey structure with parking space for 200 cars, will be built at the present day taxi parking area in the lower market.

“The taxi parking will be relocated,” he said. “We are looking for a suitable place.”

Design of the structure is ready and the necessary documents are being processed. Contract will be awarded in about three months.

Residents of the town’s core areas have been facing acute shortage of parking space.

Karma Chen, Phuentsholing Maed tshogpa, said: “I am very happy to hear that a multi-storey parking space is now taking shape. We have been raising this issue for a long time.”

Sonam Penjore, a resident of the town, said that it is very difficult to get a parking space, particularly in town area. “Sometimes it takes more than 30 minutes for one to find a space. It’s very frustrating.”

To ease parking space shortage in town, the thromde management is now planning to restrict vehicles from parking near Zangtopelri where most of the departmental stores are located. But that will happen only after the construction of multi-storey parking space is completed.
