The league leader Transport United thrashed Phuentsholing City 0-13 in Phuentsholing on September 9. Thimphu City, currently the second on the table, overwhelmed Paro United 13-0 at Changlimithang. Ugyen Academy that stands in third defeated Thimphu FC 4-0 at home on September 10 in Punakha.

The light shower before the kickoff between Thimphu City and Paro United at Changlimithang hindered the performance of the players as they faced difficulty in adapting to the weather. The slippery turf deflected the passes making it difficult for the players to control the ball and set up for goals.

The 16-year-old striker Nima Tshering opened the score for the citizens in the 15th minute. Lungtok Dawa doubled the lead in the 39th minute.

The second half was  hammering for the away team, Paro United. They conceded 11 goals after the half and the match ended 13-0 in favor of Thimphu City.

Paro United is the next club to concede the loss with the huge margin in after Phuentsholing City.

Paro United’s coach said that he could not train the boys for a single day in the 23 days international break. He said that his interest to manage the club in the next season has changed. Paro United was led by a Thai coach in the previous season.

Thimphu City’s coach, Vincent Deacon, said that the team could still win the league. “We need to stay positive and believe that we can. Despite the weather situation, the boys played well today.  We made a mistake against transport united but that happens even to the bigger teams in football. We need to keep performing and we can still win the championship,” he said.

“Remaining two matches are tight. Ugyen Academy FC is a very good team and we are looking forward to seeing their play against Transport United. A mistake of Transport would decide the championship favor to us,” said the Coach.

Looking at the current form of top three teams, the league has become a tough contest among them. While Transport United remains undefeated, Thimphu City’s loss to the former has not hampered their performance. With the highest 26 goals scored in last two games, the citizens’ performances are unquestionable despite losing five starting players to injuries while on the national squad duties.

Transport United is yet to play Ugyen Academy to claim championship.

Ugyen Academy has remained undefeated at home in last three games. Transport United needs a win or a draw against Ugyen Academy that needs two wins to finish the championship ahead of Thimphu City. Both Thimphu City and Transport United have a match each against Ugyen Academy.

Each team has two matches left to play before the league ends. Transport United will play against Ugyen Academy in Punakha tomorrow.
