Gewogs in Zhemgang have nominated five candidates for the upcoming National Council (NC) election.

Three gewogs of Goshing, Shingkhar, and Bardo did not have any aspiring candidates.

Sonam Leki, 43, from Tseldang in Nangkor Gewog was nominated with 263 “Yes” and 70 “No” votes.

Sonam Leki served as a teacher and has a Bachelor in Education from Samtse College of Education. He also contested in 2018 NC election.




Samphel Dendup from Phangkhar secured 203 “Yes” and 21 “No” votes. The 49-year-old was the only aspiring candidate during the nomination meeting. He has a Bachelor of Technology in Civil Engineering and served as deputy executive engineer with the Royal Bhutan Police.

Tshering Tshomo, 39, the lone female candidate, was nominated with ‘225 “Yes” and 20 “No” votes. She served as a teacher before contesting for the NC.




Tshering Yeshi, 46, is the NC candidate from Bjoka. He secured 185 “Yes” and 1 “No” vote. He has LLB and Postgraduate Diploma in National Law.

Thinley Jamtsho will contest from Trong. During the dhamngoi dzomdu held on March 3, he got 265 “yes” votes and 1 “No” vote. He served as a district planning officer in Zhemgang and Research Officer with the Centre for Bhutan Studies. He has a Master in Public Administration.
