Tashichholing in Samtse will finally get a new hospital. The 20-bedded hospital will be constructed below the existing one with a budget of Nu 260 million (M) under the Government of India’s project tied assistance.

The project was included in the “111th National Day footprints initiatives”.

Planning officer with dzongkhag administration, Tashi, said that the project was at a preliminary stage. “Currently, we are working on design work. It is a huge project and drungkhag did not have the capacity to carry out the technical and design work. Health ministry is initiating the consultancy work.”

The project, which includes the construction of doctor’s quarter, ambulance garage and water supply will be tendered by the end of June this year.

Tashicholing is one of the highest populated gewogs in the country. Tashi said that with the population growth there was a need for a better and bigger hospital.

“There is also the need to provide diverse services.”

The new hospital is expected to accommodate more than 40 beds. The existing hospital, a BHU-I, has the capacity to accommodate 10 beds.

Besides gewogs under the drungkhag such as Tashichholing, Pemaling, Namgaychholing, Norgaygang, and Tendruk, the new hospital will also cater to Sangachholing and Yoeseltse gewogs.
