Decongestion: A bridge will be constructed over Thimchu connecting Chugo Lam and Dechhen Lam below the Royal Academy of Performing Arts to decongest vehicular traffic in Thimphu.

The 94-metre long bridge will have a 54-metre span twin rib arch and 20+20-metre reinforced cement concrete t-girder.

The construction of the bridge with seven-metre carriage width and loading capacity of 70R as per Indian Road Congress, the apex body of highway engineers in India, will begin from January next year.

The construction period of the bridge is 24 months.

The bridge will also have 1.5-metre pedestrian footpath on both sides.

Works and human settlement ministry’s chief engineer with the bridge division, Tshewang Dorji, said that the construction work worth about Nu 102 million will be contracted out to national contractors.

“The ministry will float the tender through media tomorrow,” he said.
