Granted that ‘nothing stays … everything flows’, as in the old Heraclitus fashion, the manner and magnitude of change, whether natural or induced, if dramatic or subtle, momentary or enduring, carries with it a force that can affect and alter the fate of nations and of peoples often far beyond the realm of the normal and the desirable.
