Officials at the national referral hospital said the baby that was allegedly found dumped in a black plastic bag as reported on social media has not been brought to the hospital.

A post of the newborn baby in Thimphu went viral on social media last week. Another post followed stating that those who wanted to help the baby could visit the national referral hospital.

Health officials however, said that the hospital did not receive any abandoned babies. “We have received many calls from people who wanted to adopt the baby. I think the news is not true,” a health official said.

According to hospital officials, abandoned babies who are no more alive are referred to the forensic department while those that are found alive are brought to the neonatal intensive care unit.
