Kipse demkhong in Samdrupjongkhar thromde nominated Ugyen Wangchuk as their thrompon candidate for the upcoming thromde elections, which will be held along with the local government (LG) elections on December 22.

Ugyen Wangchuk, 34, secured 46 votes during the damngoi zomdu yesterday. The other contestant, Sangay Tenzin, 47, secured only 28 votes.

The demkhong has a lone candidate for the thromde tshogpa. Seventy-four voters turned up to cast their votes at the thromde branch office in Dewathang.

Ugyen Wangchuk has a Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) from India. He worked as a teacher for four years, and an administrative officer for five years before his resignation from the post.

Meanwhile, Chenangri-Rishore chiwog in Dewathang gewog nominated Karma Dema as the gup candidate. She secured 50 ‘yes’ votes and had two ‘no’ votes.

She served in the Samdrupjongkhar Initiative (SJI) before resigning from her post.

The chiwog has two tshogpa candidates.

Election officials said that since Samdrupjongkhar is a high-risk area, they are strictly following the Covid-19 safety protocols such as hand washing, wearing masks, and maintaining social distance during the zomdu.

They will conduct damngoi zomdu for Rikhey chiwog and Damphu-Dungkarchoeling chiwog in Dewathang gewog, Martsala chiwog and Keptang-Tsholingkhar chiwog in Martsala gewog, Jangsa chiwog and Rongchuthang chiwog in Langchenphu gewog and Samdrupgatshel demkhong and Samdrupjongkhar Toed demkhong of thromde today.
