The Office of the Attorney General (OAG) has charged the officiating principal of a primary school in Tsirang, who was initially detained for alleged child molestation to the Tsirang dzongkhag court.

The case was registered on December 19.

The 54-year-old officiating principal was charged for 10 counts of molestation. He was alleged of molesting four class II students and six class III students from February to November this year.

The teacher, who is from Tsholingkhar in Tsirang, was accused of touching the private parts and genital areas of the little girls. He was also accused of kissing some students.

OAG stated that the offences violate section 203 of the Penal Code of Bhutan, which states, “A defendant shall be guilty of the offence of child molestation if the defendant molests a child.”

The offence of child molestation is graded a fourth degree felony with prison terms ranging from three years to five years.

OAG pleaded the court to give consecutive sentencing for all the charges.
