Of the total 41 patent applications the Department of Intellectual property (DOIP) has received until 2018, only two innovations could be patented to date.

Assistant Intellectual Property Officer Tshering Samdrup said, this was due to lack of in house resources for substantive examination and delays in obtaining the report from external sources, which takes three to four years for the patents to be granted in the traditional patent system used by DOIP.
