Haa remained faithful to People’s Democratic Party (PDP) at the primaries yesterday. PDP won the highest number of votes at the party president’s dzongkhag.

It bagged 2,875 votes followed by Druk Nyamrup Tshogpa (DNT) securing 1,276 votes.

Haa has 7,818 registered voters excluding postal voters. Of the total 3,645 registered voters at Sangbaykha, PDP secured 1,690 votes followed by Druk Phuensum Tshogpa (DPT), which secured 315 votes. DNT won 312 votes and Bhutan Kuen-Nyam Party (BKP) secured the lowest, 103 votes.

Returning Officer (RO) at Sangbaykha, Jambay Dorjee (PhD) said that no major problems were faced during the poll day. “However, we had about three voters who were registered for postal ballots and had come for EVM which had to be denied.”

He said that two voters were from Samtse who transferred their registry and couldn’t vote.

A total of about 16 postal ballots were rejected at the constituency. Of the total 794 valid postal ballots for counting on the poll day, 236 were conventional and 558 from the facilitation booths.

In both postal and EVM, PDP secured the highest in both the constituencies.

In Bji-Katsho-Eusu constituency, PDP led with about 1,185 votes followed by DNT at 964 votes and BKP at 441 votes. DPT secured the least votes, 370.

Of the 4,173 registered voters at Bji-Katsho-Eusu constituency, 1,963 were male and 2,210 were female.

RO Dorji Rinchen said that about 50 people were issued Voter Photo Identity Card (VPIC) at the constituency yesterday. “However about four cases involving people who were registered for facilitation booth postal ballot came for the EVM. They were not allowed to vote.”
