Basketball: Pelkhi School emerged as the champions of the Thimphu Thromde Intra-school Basketball Competition 2016.

Pelkhil School defeated Kelki higher secondary school in both the boys and girls categories at the Swimming Pool Complex yesterday.

Pelkhil girls defeated the defending champions Kelki 29-14 while in the boys category, Pelkhil retained their championship thrashing Kelki 72-38.

One the players from Pelkhil, Yeshi Choden Gyeltshen, said that they were sure of winning the tournament this year.

Pelkhil sports instructor, Dechen Phurba said that it was a proud moment for the team and the school as a whole. “Despite their busy academic schedule, the players had trained hard for the tournament and today they have proven that they are the best,” he said.

Pelkhil will now compete at the regional level.

Thimphu thromde’s deputy chief thromde education officer, Namgyel Dorji said that despite financial limitations to conduct such activities, it was organised for the wholesome development of the students.

The thromde will conduct similar tournaments for volleyball, football and indoor games.

A total of 15 middle and higher secondary schools took part in the two-week competition.
