A forest fire suspected to have started on October 18 midnight has destroyed more than 50 acres of pine forest in Khoma gewog in Lhuentse. Although no casualties were reported, officials suspect human activities such as cigarette butts and bee hunters to be the cause of the fire. Strong winds are making it difficult for forest officials to contain the fire, which is still raging.
