Samdrupjongkhar Rabdey Lam Neten Sangay Tshering appointed Jigme Chogyel, 31, as the new lam of the main temple, Buddha Vihar Assam in Guwahati, India yesterday.

He was appointed as per the dratshang lhentshog’s approval. Samdrupjongkhar rabdey had requested the need of a lam to look after the lhakhang. The dratshang is in the process of availing the lag-thram of the lhakhang.

Lam Jigme Chogyel, who is from Kengkhar in Mongar, pursued his higher Buddhist philosophical studies at Kidhekhar shedra in Mongar and masters in Buddhist philosophical studies at Tango University, Thimphu. He later completed a three year solitary retreat (losum chosum) at the Chari Dorjidhen retreat centre.
