As part of Japan Week, Foreign Minister Dr Tandi Dorji and Ambassador of Japan to Bhutan Satoshi Suzuki virtually inaugurated a new Judo Dojo (practise hall) at Pelkill School in Thimphu on October 9.  

The government of Japan funded around Nu 10 million. The new dojo can house 60-70 judokas. Currently, Bhutan Judo Association has 200 members.    

Commemorating the 20th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Bhutan and Japan, the Japan week was launched in 2006. Since then, the Japanese Embassy in New Delhi has been organising Japan Week in Bhutan annually except last year due to the pandemic.
