Desuung: Speaking to the 22nd batch of Desuung trainees at the Tencholing Military Centre in Wangdue, Prime Minister Tshering Tobgay praised Desuups across the country for their continued services during disasters, emergencies and various events.

The 125 Desuup trainees who are tourist guides with various education backgrounds will be trained for three weeks at the military centre. This batch will bring the total number of Desuups to 2,641.

Lyonchoen said he was excited to learn that this batch is composed of tourist guides.

“I heard that this group had also personally requested to get Desuung training, which makes me happy,” said Lyonchoen. Of the last 21 groups, only one of the groups, had requested for the training.

Of 125 trainees, nine studied until class X, 78 until class XII and four holds diploma certificates. Thirty one hold a university degree and three Masters degrees. The group also includes a doctor and a dentist.

Lyonchoen said that tourist guides are the face of the country. Guides welcome and help foreign visitors to learn about the country’s culture and tradition while in Bhutan.

“I have utmost respect for the tourist guides and the job they do,” Lyonchoen said. “Due to which, I requested the Desuung coordinators to invite me.”

Lyonchoen said His Majesty The King is always the first person to reach a scene of disaster, followed by the Desuups. He urged the Desuups to continue the good service they have been doing.

While the Prime Minister and others are compelled to visit a disaster scene because it is their job, Desuups always turn up voluntarily and work with dedication. “I appreciate the Desuup’s dedication to the Tsawa-Sum,” Lyonchoen said.
