Crime: Thimphu police arrested four men and a woman for having possessed controlled substances since December 31 last year till date.
A 30-year-old man was apprehended from Olakha in Thimphu for possessing 720 Spasmo-proxyvon (SP) capsules on January 4, based on a tip-off.
A 38-year-old woman was also apprehended on the same day at around 11pm for having 5,112 SP capsules concealed in a carton box, covered with empty bottles in her shop in Babesa, Thimphu.
On December 31, 2016, police arrested a man, 36, from near Changlimithang stadium for possessing 135 SP capsules. In connection to this case, another man, 35, was also arrested the next day, suspected to be acting as the middleman for the 36-year-old man.
A 31-year-old man was also detained from Chubachu on January 1, for having 138 SP capsules with him.
All the men tested positive for the controlled substances.
A police official said that fast and easy money is one of the reasons people are taking risks and smuggling controlled substances into the country.
