Crime: Tshimasham police apprehended a 24-year-old man for possessing 582 Spasmo-proxyvon (SP) capsules and 209 Nitrosun 10 (N10) tablets during a surprise check on December 13.

The man was travelling in  public transport from Phuentsholing to Thimphu.

According to the suspect’s statement to police, he brought the controlled substances from Jaigaon, a border town in India.

On December 12, a police drug crackdown team in Gelephu apprehended four high school students for possessing cannabis and its derivatives near the Bhutan Oil Distributor’s fuel station in Gelephu.

An 18-year-old youth was found carrying four pieces of hashish weighing a total of 40.41 grammes and 3,780 grammes of marijuana leaves concealed in a black plastic bag inside a school bag. Another boy, also 18, was found carrying marijuana hashish weighing 15.83 grammes.

The suspects, aged between 15 and 18 were tested positive for tetrahydrocannabidinol (THC). THC is the active ingredient in cannabis, giving it its narcotic and psychoactive effects.

On the same day, Phuentsholing police apprehended two men, both in their 20s, from the Rinchending check post in Phuentsholing for carrying 350 bottles of codeine-based cough syrup (Corex) with them.
