Crime: Burglary cases have drastically reduced at National Housing Development Corporation (NHDC) colony in Samdrupjongkhar after one of suspects was arrested last month.

The 30-year-old non-Bhutanese suspect was arrested in July. It is believed that his accomplice escaped across the border.

The police are waiting for the response from the Office of Attorney General to file the case at the district court.

The police came to know about the burglary only after two tenants lodged complaint. The tenants were robbed almost every day of their cell phones, laptops and money, among others.

Police said the suspect informed them about his friend who escaped from Darranga, India. It is believed that he is now in Bangladesh. He will be charged to court in absentia for committing the crime.

According to police report, the suspects have sold half the stolen items.

The police said that because it includes lengthy process to recover the items and bring it to Bhutan, they are looking into the matter.

The tenants attributed the increase in burglary to the porous border and poor streetlights.
