Thimphu police are looking for people involved in an alleged burglary incident in the foreign affairs ministry office.
Police sources said ministry officials reported to police on May 24, stating that some miscreants had broken the main door of the accounts section and stole Nu 64,000 belonging to the government.
Sources said Nu 47,000 was Bhutanese currency and Nu 17,000 was Indian currency. “The accountant also lost Nu 50,000 and a laptop.”
According to the complainant’s statement to police, the caretaker found the main door to account section broken when she went to switch off the light around 6pm.
The caretaker then reported the matter to concerned officials, who reported the matter to police.
Police officials said when they went to investigate, they found the lock of the accounts section broken.
According to police officials, the accountants claim the money was kept in a steel almirah, which was broken. “The miscreants left fingerprint but it was not clear,” a police official said.
The official also said it would have been easier for police to solve the case if there was CCTV in the area. “Unfortunately, the area is not under the coverage of any CCTVs.”
