For the upcoming bye-election in Bumthang, only about 25 percent of the registered 6,219 voters have registered for the postal ballot service.

The office of the Returning officer of Chhoekhor-Tang constituency in Bumthang dispatched all the postal ballot yesterday. 1,572 voters have registered for postal ballot including 137 from overseas. Of the 1,435 postal ballots, 35 were invalid as required documents were missing and some were not registered in the electoral roll.

Of the 137 postal ballots registered from overseas, 4 were invalid, as the office couldn’t get the email address. With 98 voters, Australia has the highest voters taking art in the bye-election.

The postal ballot should reach the office of the returning officer on November 18 before 5pm.

Unlike other elections in the past, postal ballots were sent through e-mail to overseas voters. The voters could download, print and send it back. The voters are supposed to pay for it which will be refunded later by the ECB.
