Punakha has received about 86 percent of conventional postal ballots sent from the dzongkhag.

The dzongkhag issued 1,268 postal ballots to civil servants, armed forces working in other dzongkhags and to those who live overseas.

Returning Officer has received 1,089 postal ballots until yesterday.

Envelope A of the conventional postal ballots would be opened today, an election official said.

The dzongkhag has identified 30 polling stations. The farthest is Yebisa chiwog, Phummey village and Baliphaka village under Chubbong gewog. These stations are about 54km away from Punakha.

More than 150 polling officers in Punakha left for their respective stations yesterday.

Officials from Election Commission of Bhutan (ECB) conducted a two-day refresher course for station officers in Punakha.

Five stations in Punakha – Dzomi gewog centre, Laptshakha Community Primary School, Punakha hospital, Serigang, and Toedwang gewog centre has more than 900 registered voters.

Punakha has eight NC candidates.

Most of the candidates in Punakha said that houses of the villagers were empty or locked as many were involved in farming. Although gungtong is minimal in the dzongkhag, candidates said that most of the people live in urban areas.
