Punakha—The Thangzona ground in Punakha came alive with hundreds of people from various parts of Punakha gathered to celebrate the 117th National Day.

The occasion was graced by the presence of dignitaries, including Industry, Commerce and Employment Minister Namgyal Dorji, Punakha dzongda, Drangpon, Members of Parliament, the Superintendent of Police, and other dzongkhag officials.

The event brought together residents and visitors alike in a spirit of unity and pride, marking the significant day with cultural programmes and heartfelt celebrations. Besides the cultural shows, a lottery draw was also held, offering exciting prizes to those who attended the celebration.

Most of those who attended the celebration described it as a joyous moment, bringing Bhutanese people together in unity and happiness.

A 12-year-old student from Khuruthang Middle Secondary School, who performed a Dzongkha dance, said, “It was a proud moment for me to perform on such a joyous occasion.”

His Majesty’s address stood out as the highlight of the event.

The celebration ended with Tashi Labay.

The dzongkhag administration also organised an evening programme at Kaja Throm in Khuruthang with musical performances by artists like Karma Phuntsho, Hemlal Darjay, Phub Zam, Nim Dorji and Kinley Wangmo.
