Two senior officials of the Royal Audit Authority (RAA) at the Phuentsholing regional office were suspended last month  for their alleged involvement in corrupt practices.

Details on the grounds of their suspension are sketchy but sources say it was due to embezzlement. The RAA authority suspended the regional office’s assistant auditor general and an auditor.

Sources said the audit authority had conducted its own internal audit and found mismanagement issues in supervision and accounts.

An official requesting anonymity said the issue was mainly based on gross negligence of supervision and accounting. “The exact amount has not been ascertained yet,” the official said.

Kuensel’s close sources say more than Nu 2 million has been misused.

Audit authority officials in Phuentsholing did not comment. RAA office in Phuentsholing covers Chukha and Samtse dzongkhags.
