Football: Rangjung Autonomous Higher Secondary School (RAHSS) were crowned champions of the monsoon football tournament in Trashigang after they beat Mithidrang United FC on penalty shootout 5:3 on Saturday.

RAHSS dominated the first half scoring two goals, while Mithidrang FC struggled to get their first goal. A lot of scoring opportunities went begging.

Mithidrang FC returned stronger in the second half and equalised, taking the match to penalty shoot out.

RAHSS coach and teacher, Namgay Nidup Wangchuk said the team had to work hard for the victory.

“It was the toughest match of the tournament for my team but we made it,” he said.  “All credit goes to the students considering the rigorous training they underwent and yes, we deserved to win.”

MUFC players said that home support was the major factor for RAHSS’s win. “We’ll come back stronger next year,” a player said.

Trashigang Sports Association’s tournament had 24 teams participating from Trashigang and Trashiyangtse.

RAHSS took home Nu 40,000, and the runners up Mithidrang FC got Nu 20,000.
