Following an investigation, the Royal Bhutan Police (RBP) suspended the officer-in-command (OC) of Gedu police station for his involvement in the pool vehicle accident on the night of September 16.
Police chief, Colonel Chimi Dorji, said that the investigation team from the headquarters submitted their findings on September 21.
He said that the team recommended that the officer be transferred to a remote place and also reprimanded for his misconduct as per the police service rules and regulations.
It was reported that the officer who was driving the pool vehicle, a Toyota Hilux, was under the influence of alcohol when the accident occurred.
The vehicle veered about 48 feet below the road near Gaeddu College of Business Studies. There were two other passengers when the accident occurred. No casualty was reported.
The issue first surfaced in social media, Facebook, where an anonymous user stated that police tried to conceal the accident by covering the vehicle with tarpaulin and tree leaves.
Meanwhile, police chief also said that the officer should bear the cost of repairing the vehicle, which would cost about Nu 643,000.
