Resurfacing the Punakha-Gasa highway is challenged with motorist non-compliance.

Resurfacing project on the 9km stretch between Serigang gewog until Zomlingthang began this April.

Workers at the project site said that maintaining smooth traffic was a challenge.

The workers had earlier asked for a police to control the traffic.

“Because of limited police personnel available, we couldn’t get any. However, we have been told to open traffic every 10 minutes or so,” said one official.

Manager Chandra Chhetri said travellers do not comply with notices. “The locals are corporative and are complying with our work schedule. However, some of our workers have experienced some travellers making their way forcefully.”

People travelling through the stretch, when coinciding with the work, is stopped for about 10 minutes.

The work is expected to complete tomorrow.

Chandra Chhetri said that about 80 percent of the work was completed.

He added that the work is still under process and is expected to be completed before the flower exhibition.

The Nu 10 million project is under the Department of Roads.
