At Narphung along the Samdrupjongkhar-Trashigang highway, heavy landslides and falling boulders have closed the traffic since evening of August 4.

Machinery and men are deployed at the area.

However, due to falling boulders and poor visibility maintenance was difficult, DoR chief engineer at Samdrupjongkhar, Jigme Choidup, said. “It is going to take another two days to clear the road as per Project DANTAK.”

Similarly, the road at Ossey along the Gelephu-Zhemgang highway witnessed another landslide that closed the traffic since yesterday.

DoR’s chief engineer at Sarpang, Chet Bdr Mongar, said that the block at Ossey was cleared on August 4 but another landslide yesterday blocked the road. “There is falling boulders and working is risky.”

He added that the road would open to traffic today if the weather improved. “If it continues to rain, then working at the area is dangerous. And there is still continuous falling boulders.”
