The Royal Bhutan Armed Forces (RBAF) held a commemorative ceremony on September 30 to mark a decade of Bhutan’s participation in United Nations peacekeeping operations, accompanied by the release of a special stamp series. The event underscores Bhutan’s significant contributions to global peace and security under His Majesty The King, the Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces. His Majesty’s visionary leadership has been instrumental in shaping Bhutan’s commitment to international peace efforts.

The commemorative stamp series showcases key moments from Bhutan’s peacekeeping efforts over the past 10 years, honouring the professionalism, dedication, and sacrifices of Bhutanese peacekeepers who have served in various conflict zones around the world.

Bhutan’s journey into UN peacekeeping began in September 2014 with the deployment of its first peacekeepers to the United Nations Truce Supervision Organization (UNTSO) in the Middle East. Since then, Bhutanese peacekeepers have served in multiple UN missions, including in Liberia, Haiti, South Sudan, Sudan, Lebanon, the Central African Republic and Democratic Republic of Congo, playing pivotal roles in maintaining peace and supporting humanitarian efforts.

Bhutan under His Majesty’s resolute leadership has steadfastly supported global peace initiatives with a strong sense of duty and responsibility. Since Bhutan’s first deployment to UNTSO in 2014, the peacekeepers, drawn from the Royal Bhutan Armed Forces, have served with honour and distinction, representing the nation’s commitment to the principles of peace, compassion, and justice. This commemorative stamp series is a testament to their dedication and to Bhutan’s ongoing commitment to global peace.

Over the last 10s years, Bhutan’s peacekeepers have earned respect for their professionalism and bravery in some of the world’s most volatile regions. They have contributed to conflict resolution, humanitarian support, and maintenance of security, reinforcing Bhutan’s role as a responsible member of the global community.
