A class X student from Tendruk Central School in Samtse, Sabin Limbu won the Golden Youth of the Year Award, for the academic year 2020 beating 99 other candidates yesterday.
“I am extremely happy to get such an award. More than for myself I am happy that I could make my school and the dzongkhag proud,” Sabin Limbu said.
Sabin Limbu wants to pursue his higher studies in science and become a software engineer.
The Youth Development Fund, which organises the event every year, will provide him with a prestigious United World College (UWC) scholarship to pursue higher studies in Thailand.
The 13th GYA with the theme “Youth and Covid 19”, was conducted from July 27 to 30 for class X students of 2020. Given the pandemic situation, the event was held virtually over Zoom.
Her Majesty the Gyalyum Tseyring Pem Wangchuck, HRH Princess Chimi Yangzom Wangchuck, Prime Minister, cabinet ministers, and other dignitaries attended the closing ceremony yesterday.
Tempa Dorji from Samtengang Central School under Wangduephodrang came second. Yutsho Tshezin Wangchuk from Druk School and Wangchuk Dorji from Lungtenzampa Middle Secondary School both in Thimphu were declared third and fourth respectively.
Unlike the previous years where only two students (a girl and a boy) from each dzongkhag participated in the event, this year five from each dzongkhag competed at the national-level event.
The participants contested in a series of activities like essay writing, extempore speech, and exhibited their talents.
