A 28-year-old businessman, Ngawang Nidup, won nomination for the National Council from the Samtse Throm yesterday.

Of the total 224 votes, Ngawang Nidup got 119 ‘yes’ votes. Sonam Gyamtsho got 80 and Dhurba Raj Gurung 25.

The zomdu opened at 9 am and closed at 3 pm. The aspiring candidates were among the last to vote.

The zomdu results were declared immediately after the voting closed in presence of the three contestants and election observers.

“Some of my family members live in Thimphu and other places. They will come to cast their vote in the final round,” an elderly voter said.

The zomdus in Samtse began on February 28 and a total of 18 zomdu have been concluded so far.
