Pema Tashi, 38, from Serzhong Gewog in Sarpang, was elected the dzongkhag’s NC yesterday with 5,253 votes.

He secured the highest postal ballots (2,108) and EVM votes (3,145).

Pema Tashi said that the people of Sarpang have won this election. “I feel I am fit for this post. I am certain that my law background and experiences can make a difference for Sarpang and the nation.”

He attributed his victory to his determination and hard work. “I have a genuine interest to serve my people and the community. Even after losing the 2018 NC elections, I was encouraged to take part in this year’s elections.”

Thanking his supporters and the voters for putting their trust and faith in him, he said: “I will uphold your trust and will never let you. I will serve all the people equally.”

During the common forums and election campaigns, he did not have many pledges to offer to the voters but stressed more about how someone with a law background could make a difference in the National Council.

He was followed by San Badhur Monger from Dekiling Gewog with 2,918 votes, and Kuenga from Gelephu Gewog with 2,863 votes. The lone female candidate from Umling Gewog, Dechen Lhaden, came in fourth with 2,170 votes.

Anand Rai, former NC member, from Gakiling Gewog, came in sixth place with 1,848 votes.

Sarpang saw 19,664 voters turnout (10,138 male and 9,526 female) out of 33,792 registered voters in the dzongkhag.
