The schools from Dagana, Sarpang, Tsirang and Gelephu took part in the three-day regional sports meet that concluded Saturday at Damphu Higher Secondary School in Tsirang.

A total of 309 students took part in games like volleyball, basketball, football, table tennis, traditional archery, badminton, and chess.

The championship trophy was awarded to Tsirang Dzongkhag.

District education officer of Dagana, Norbu Gyalpo, said that organising regional annual sports is a good initiative in which students can mingle and make friends from different schools from different dzongkhag where they can get more exposure.

“Having to travel during monsoon and getting very little time to practice is the main challenges facing the students,” said Norbu Gyalpo.

Norbu Gyalpo added that the winners from the regional sports meet will go to Thimphu for national level tournament.

Deputy chief dzongkhag education officer of Tsirang, Pema Thinley, said that this year’s regional sports meet was organised to commemorate the 60th birth anniversary of His Majesty the Fourth Druk Gyalpo.

The sports meet was funded by Department of Youth and Sports under Ministry of Education.
