Update: The three male inmates who escaped through the toilet window from the Wangdue police custody are still at large as of yesterday evening.

A search team was immediately deployed after they went missing in the evening of January 7.

Police sources said following information from villagers, the three were last spotted in

Phangyul and Kazhi gewogs. Search teams have been deployed at Sephu, Phobjikha, Kazhi, Dangchu and other across the dzongkhag.

The search is still going on. The three inmates are Sangay Penjore, 24, Passang Dorji, 24, and Tashi Namgay, 31, all from Sephu gewog were sentenced to life imprisonment for chorten vandalism. The district court passed the verdict on December 24 last month.

The inmates have escaped the police custody after breaking the iron bars of the toilet window. They were to be transferred to the central jail in Chamgang, Thimphu and to Trongsa where they will undergo a trail in connection with chorten in Tangsibji.

Meanwhile, three police personnel were kept under quarterguard (detained) since the inmates escaped.
