Visit: Lyonchoen Tshering Tobgay served the first meal to boarder students of Sergithang Primary School coinciding with the establishment of boarding facilities in the school yesterday.

Boarding facilities were provided to 120 students, 60 boys and 60 girls who come from far flung villages of Sergithang gewog.

The government funded Nu 9.2 million (M) for the construction of the hostel, Nu 7.3M for the construction of 13 unit classrooms and Nu 9.3M for the construction of a four unit staff quarter and principal’s quarter.

Lyonchoen said that when students are provided with boarding facilities, their responsibility is to study hard and make the best use of facilities. “Use your time in studying but at the same time you should also play,” he said.

Sergithang School is under the World Food Program feeding program. A class six student, Sagar Rai, who used to walk to school from Sergithangtoe said he is grateful to be provided with boarding facilities.

“I use to walk for two and half hours everyday and now I am happy that I get to stay near the school,” he said.

Sergithang primary school has 219 students. Until the boarding facilities were offered, children from Norbugang and Semdenjong chiwogs have been walking for almost three hours every day to school.

Lyonchoen Tshering Tobgay have visited 11 gewogs and met with more than 3,000 people in Tsirang. He will meet the people of Semjong gewog and the students of Damphu higher secondary school today.
