Team Singye overpowered Chung to seize a massive win by 135 runs in the final of the 2023 men’s national cricket championship at Gelephu international cricket ground on January 14.

In what was one of its best performances, Singye obtained 226 runs with the fall of nine wickets in the game of 50 overs. Chung could earn only 91 runs in just 31.4 overs as they lost all the wickets.

Chung was unable to maintain their winning streak on Saturday. In the league round on January 9, Chung won against Singye by two wickets.

Singye’s Tashi Phuntsho played a crucial role for the team in the final. He contributed 49 runs, took two wickets, and made two catches. Tashi Phuntsho was declared the player of the match.

Singye’s captain Ranjung Mikyo Dorji said, “The final match was good. Both teams were equally competent. But our batters did a great job by putting up a good target.”

“It is good to have such a big tournament in the country. The best part was there were lots of young talents whom the national head coach could select,” he said.

According to him, the standard of cricket in Bhutan would improve gradually if such professional tournaments continued.

Tshering Penjor of Chung was the most valuable player of the tournament. He got an overall rating of 39.28 points from four games.

Four teams competed in the maiden tournament organised by Bhutan Cricket which began on January 6.
