Nim Dorji | Trongsa

The snowfall on February 4, which was the first after a decade in Trongsa, has affected most of the gewogs.

Though many residents celebrated the snowfall, villagers were left aghast after it left many of their greenhouses and crops damaged.

Many areas remain cut off due to roadblocks. Power lines were cut and some places remained without an electricity supply for two days.

In the upper gewogs of Trongsa, Nubi and Tangsibji, greenhouses were damaged by the heavy snowfall. Crops in the gewogs in the lower part of the dzongkhag were damaged.

In Nubi gewog, all five chiwogs reported damage to the greenhouses. Nubi Gup Pema Lhamo said that there were reports of damage in all her chiwogs.

The gewog administration, in coordination with the agriculture sector, is assessing and monitoring the damage in the gewog.

Likewise in Tangsibji gewog, Kela chiwog reported damage to cardamom by the snow. Gup Jigme Namgyel Tangbi said that the snow has damaged the roof of the dining hall of Tshangkha Central School.

It has also damaged the greenhouse of the vegetable cooperative. “We are compiling reports,” the gup said.

Dragteng Gup Dubala said that in the gewog most of the damage was to wheat and barley.

Langthel Gup Rinzin Wangchuk said that the snowfall, rain, and windstorms damaged crops in a few chiwogs.

The dzongkhag agriculture sector is compiling the reports from the affected chiwog and gewogs.
