The commitment was made to mark its 50th anniversary

Commemorating its 50th year of establishment, the State Trading Corporation of Bhutan Limited (STCBL) yesterday committed to build two toilets at Chimuna Primary School (CPS) at Lokchina gewog, Chukha.

The commitment is also a part of the company’s corporate social responsibility. STCBL has committed to construct separate toilets and bathroom for the students to inculcate the habit of sanitation and good hygiene, STCBL officials said.

An assessment was also carried out in December last year after a team comprising officials from STCBL, Chukha dzongkhag administration, and Kidu office visited the school. STCBL will provide Nu 178,000 for the toilets.

CPS management and students also attended the event yesterday.

Although the school has toilets today, its principal Dorji Tshering said the toilets do not have flushing facilities. Students have to carry water to the toilets.

“STCBL will soon start the construction,” he said. “The survey and estimates have been carried out already.”

CPS is located in one of the most remote places of Chukha. Principal Dorji Tshering said that road condition in the summer is a major problem the school faces each year. “The school remains cut-off,” he said.

Meanwhile, STCBL management and staff donated school materials worth Nu 284,724.57 to the school that include about 134 school uniforms, 85 mattresses, and 85 blankets.

Observing the 50th establishment year, the corporation also launched its new company logo yesterday. Chukha dzongdag and the sector heads in Phuentsholing attended the event.
