The former employee of State Trading Corporation of Bhutan (STCBL) and the company has decided to take the case of the employee’s termination to court after both parties could not come to an agreement.

According to the officiating chief labour officer with the labour ministry, Ngawang Norbu, both parties decided to move to court after they could not reach a consensus at a meeting held at the ministry yesterday.

“The ministry does not have the right to refer them to court, so when they could not come to terms, they decided to go to court,” he said.

The labour ministry held a one on one meeting after the former employee lodged a complaint with the ministry on June 5 alleging that she was terminated from work for withdrawing from a cultural programme scheduled for an office picnic on May 25.

However, STCBL officials refuted the claim and cited other reasons for termination including the employee’s personal attributes not fitting the role of marketing manager in the company.

STCBL’s director refused to comment on the case moving to court.
