Police in Nganglam, Pemagatshel arrested a 53-year-old man for allegedly attempting to rape his two-year and three-month-old step-daughter on June 8.

The incident occurred in Gashari Bali in Nganglam on the night of June 5. One of the neighbours reported the incident to police around 8am on June 8.

The police arrested the suspect. The victim was immediately moved to Nganglam hospital for medical examination and sample  were also sent to the forensic department at national referral hospital in Thimphu for further investigation.

According to the medical report, there was no sign of penetration, but the suspect had sexually assaulted the victim. The suspect works as a security guard in Nganglam.

The suspect told police he was trying to rape the child at night but his wife woke up.

Sources said that the victim’s mother found her daughter crying and bleeding from her private part. She assumed it could be because of the rashes the child had.

One of the neighbours heard the victim crying and took her home. She then washed the minor and gave her food. However, the victim did not stop crying. 

According to sources, the victim’s mother told the neighbour that her husband raped her daughter. The neighbour then reported the case to police.

Meanwhile, the victim is in stable condition. The case is under investigation.
