Tragedy: A 17-year-old student of  Thimyul Lower Secondary School in Gangzur, Lhuentse drowned in the Kurichu river at noon yesterday.

More than 200 people including dzongkhag staff,  gewog officials and police of Lhuentse combed the banks of the Kurichu river in search of the body. The search will resume today at 7am from Thimyul LSS and Khoma bridge.

According to sources, the incident occurred during the lunch break. Two students who saw him running down towards the river reported that they went after him but before they could reach him, the student  jumped off the bridge and was washed away by the current.

The student was staying with his cousin in Nimshong village. Tsenkhar gup Tsheten Wangdi said after the dzongdag informed them about the incident, the community helped in searching for the body until 6pm yesterday.
