Six women students, after completing the 21-day quarantine period in the facility centre at Losel Gyatsho Academy in Gelephu instead chose to volunteer at the centre’s launderette.

The students are majoring in Accounts at Don Bosco College in Tura Meghalaya, India. They arrived in the country on March 24 after the first lockdown in India due to Covid-19.

What they have decided on doing, they say, is the least they could do for all the support that they have received at the quarantine facility.

Jamuna Bhandari, a final year student who is majoring in Commerce said thought she could give back to the nation in her small ways.

“We cannot make monetary contribution,” she said.  “When labour shortage is everywhere these days, this is how I thought we could help the nation.”

Another student, Dechen Euden from Trashigang, said that 21 days in the facility quarantine made her think deeply about the responsibilities of citizens.

“When the chance came, I grab it and I do not regret the decision,” she said. “I do not know what we would have had to go through had it not been for the government’s care and support.”
