Crime: The 18-year-old suspect who has been detained since January 13 in connection with the death of a radio jockey has confessed to the crime, according to police.

The suspect from Dagana was caught near the Clock Tower on January 13 around noon based on information from informers. Police also recovered the deceased’s mobile phone and recorder from the suspect. The deceased’s parents identified the mobile phone while the owner of the radio station identified the recorder, police said.

Police officials said that the suspect confessed that he also took Nu 700 from the deceased’s wallet. The radio jockey had withdrawn Nu 1,200 from his ATM of which Nu 700 was left in his wallet.

The suspect met the radio jockey when he was urinating behind the thromde office during which the deceased came and sat near him. The two got into a quarrel. Both of them were under the influence of alcohol.

Police said that the suspect hit the radio jockey on his head with a cudgel and left the scene. The suspect came back later to find the radio jockey still breathing. The suspect then covered his face with the jacket and left with the belongings.

The suspect is an ex-convict.

The 26-year-old radio jockey was found dead near the Thimphu thromde office on January 2. He was from Lalikharka village in Tsirang and lived in Changzamtog.

A traffic policeman on duty reported the incident to the city branch around 1:00 pm on the same day.
